The unexpected fruits of cancer

This morning I’ve been thinking about the unexpected outcomes of a cancer diagnosis. “Cancer was a catalyst in making me more brave, to cut the rope that bound me to the mooring and make the boat go in different directions …” (Mohammed Khadra, surgeon, quoted in Positive p.195)
How can this disease that spells death or suffering for so many people, also be the catalyst that turns a drifting boat into a driven, purposeful vessel?
